Blu DeTiger started out her career as a bassist for the likes of Caroline Polachek and Fletcher, and she was also once a touring member of the alt-rock outfit Kitten. However, it wasn’t until 2019 that she started making a name for herself as a solo artist.
DeTiger – that’s her real name – started her solo career with the single “In My Head,” which was produced by The Knocks and released on January 23, 2019. Since then, she’s gained a significant amount of momentum with her viral bass videos and catchy original material.
Blu’s sound is defined by her swimming basslines and easygoing vocal delivery. Every track has an exceptionally tight rhythm section, punctuated by grooves in the verses and four-on-the-floor in the majority of her choruses. It’s traditional pop music, to be sure, but there’s something refreshingly creative about each track that Blu puts out.
She recently signed with Capitol Records and subsequently released her major-label debut, “Blondes.” That year-defining track serves as the perfect introduction to DeTiger’s infectious sound.
