Biography

Cheat Codes is an electronic music trio comprising Kevin Ford (aka KEVI / PRINCE$$ ROSIE), Trevor Dahl, and Matthew Russel. The three DJs make music out of LA, California, and they’re best known for hits like “Sex” and “No Promises,” the latter of which features Demi Lovato as a vocalist. “No Promises” is the group’s biggest hit to date, going Platinum in the US and hitting the Top 40 in several countries, including the UK, Australia, and the United States.

Cheat Codes’s Origin Story: The Formation of the Trio

  • All three of the members of Cheat Codes have been making music since long before they officially became a trio. Trevor Dahl and Matthew Russell were roommates for a time, inviting Kevin over frequently to collaborate with them on production work. They all came from different backgrounds and were working on individual projects but banded together over a love for music. 
  • The group got their name from Kevin's brother, who had mentioned something about finding a “cheat code” that gave him everything he’d ever dreamed of. They told Free Bike Valet, “To us, the real 'cheat code' to life is loving what you do, and we hope to convey that energy through our music,"
  • The American electronic music DJ trio officially formed in 2014, but their first release didn’t come out until a year later. In 2015, they dropped five singles, collaborating with both Lostboycrow and Evan Gartner. However, they failed to hit the charts at first, although they gained quite a following on YouTube. 
  • Their first major success came from their debut single “Sex,” which features lyrics from the chorus of “Let’s Talk About Sex” by Salt-N-Pepa. The track features Kris Kross Amsterdam as a vocalist, and it made it to No. 10 on the US Dance charts. “Sex” went on to go Gold in the US, Platinum in Australia, Platinum in England, and Platinum in Germany. They also performed at the Billboard Hot 100 festival after releasing a music video for the song in August of 2016. 
  • Not long after getting started, the trio signed to Spinnin’ Records, a Dutch EDM label that falls under the umbrella of Warner Music Group. They eventually would tour with The Chainsmokers. 
  • While they’ve been active for a few years shy of a decade, Cheat Codes didn’t release a full-length record until 2021. On May 7, they dropped Hellraisers, Pt. 1 via 300 Entertainment, who they signed with in September of 2016.

The group has released one full-length album: Hellraisers, Pt 1, which dropped in 2021. They’ve also put out 2 EPs, Level 1 and Level 2, in June of 2018 and July of 2019, respectively.  The trio has primarily released singles throughout their career, collaborating with a wide array of high-profile artists as vocalists. Cheat Codes have been featured on numerous tracks since 2015, including:
  • “Monsters are Everywhere” by The Siege
  • “Hold On” by Moguai
  • “Shed a Light” by Robin Schulz and David Guetta
  • “Live Forever” by former One Direction member Liam Payne
  • The most successful track they’ve been featured on is “Shed a Light,” which went Double Platinum in Australia and got Gold and Platinum certifications elsewhere.

As Remix Artists

Cheat Codes have done remix work for some of the biggest artists in the world. Their first authorized remix was of “Second Wind,” a track by American pop singer Kelly Clarkson. The remix was featured on Piece by Piece Remixed, alongside other remixes by Idol, Young Bombs, Mighty Mike, Frank Pole, Vicetone, and others. Piece by Piece Remixed topped the US Dance/Electronic Albums charts in 2015.
  • In 2016, the group remixed numerous songs by a host of high-profile artists across multiple genres. Their remixes in 2016 include “Party” by JP Cooper, “Heartlines” by Broods, “This Town” by Niall Horan, “You Don’t Know Love” by Olly Murs, and “Pretty Girl” by Maggie Lindemann, which they worked on with Cade.
  • In 2017, the group was tapped by some even bigger artists to do remixes. They did a rework of “Swish Swish” by Katy Perry, partnered with AJR for a remix of “Weak,” worked with Lauv for a remix of his hit “I Like Me Better,” and more.
  • In 2018, the trio remixed songs by some of the biggest artists in the world. That year, Cheat Codes did authorized remixes of tracks by U2, Steve Aoki featuring BTS, David Guetta, Sean Paul, Becky G, and Tom Walker.  They even have a collaboration with Jared Leto’s group 30 Seconds to Mars, crafting a remix of their track “Dangerous Night.”
  • IN 2019, the group worked with Sam Smith, Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Ed Sheeran, and Normani, putting out remixes of “Dancing with a Stranger” and “South of the Border.”
