On February 17, 1991, Edward Christopher Sheeran was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. Since 2004, the now-30-year-old English singer-songwriter has been releasing music under his own name, creating a unique blend of pop, folk, and rap.
He’s known for his guitar skills – especially for his unique percussive style of playing and use of a looping device – his knack for catchy hooks, and his vulnerable but radio-ready lyricism.
Sheeran had his big break in the early 2010s when he released Loose Change, his first EP. The collection of songs featured “The A Team,” his debut single, which became a massive worldwide hit. The track went on to be certified 5x Platinum in the US and 4x Platinum in the UK. “The A Team” was eventually nominated at the Grammy Awards for Song of The Year, and the follow-up debut album, +, was a huge success.
Since the release of “The A Team” in June of 2011, Sheeran has been on a streak of rapidly increasing success.
