Sleepy Hallow: A Timeline

Here's a brief rundown of Tegan's life and musical career as Sleepy Hallow.

Sleepy Hallow’s Early Life

Born on December 20, 1999, Tegan immigrated from Jamaica to the Flatbush section of Brooklyn at a young age. Growing up, he was a fan of rappers like J. Cole, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, and Biggie Smalls, and he took up rapping himself at 12 years old. Before becoming Sleepy Hallow, Tegan was just your average New York schoolkid. He's shared in interviews that he wasn't a troublemaker at school but that he had to serve time in juvenile detention for possession of marijuana at 15 years old. After that charge, Tegan says his life changed. "Ever since that happened, I got more active in the streets, doing whatever with my guys," Tegan said, "[In} school I was declining but still got my diploma which is nice but with a 2.2 GPA. Getting locked up was rough as I had limited freedom but it was a blessing as now I'm rich (sic) than a bitch."

Getting Signed

Sleepy Hallow got discovered by Junior Galette, who signed him and his friend Sheff G to his record label, Nula Entertainment. He followed up that project with another mixtape, Sleepy for President, in 2020.  The latter features the single "Deep End Freestyle" with Fousheé, a minimal hip-hop song that became an international success and went Gold in the US and earned over 85 million streams on Spotify. "Deep End Freestyle" made it to number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June of 2020. Sleepy dropped several other successful singles at this point in his career, including "Don't Panic," "Baddie Betty Boop," and "Anxiety Freestyle."
