Barker’s Early Career

Once Travis graduated high school, he had already been drumming for several years. He played in his school’s jazz ensemble, which helped him hone his skills and prepare him for what was ahead.  In 1996, not long after his high school graduation, Barker joined The Aquabats, a comedic ska-punk group from his hometown of Fontana. Barker supported the Aquabats on several releases, including October 1997’s The Fury of The Aquabats. After playing with The Aquabats for two years, Travis joined Blink-182 prior to the release of their 5x Platinum selling record, Enema of the State. The album features the singles “All The Small Things,” “What’s My Age Again?,” and “Adam’s Song,” all of which are some of Blink’s biggest hits. When he joined Blink, Travis replaced their former drummer Scott Raynor, joining forces with Mark Hoppus and Tom Delonge to form the band’s permanent lineup. He’s been a member of the band since.

More Success With Blink-182

After Enema of the State became a huge hit, Barker stayed on drums for the next new Blink-182 album, 2001’s Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. The innuendo-titled record features some of Blink’s most successful songs to date.  The band’s next album, their self-titled fifth record, was released on November 18, 2003, via Geffen Records. Featuring singles like “I Miss You” and “Feeling This,” the album climbed the Billboard Charts.

A Life-Altering Plane Crash

In September 2008, Travis was involved in a catastrophic plane crash in South Carolina. At the time, his private plane was on the way to Van Nuys, California, with his security guard, Charles Still, his assistant, Chris Baker, and two pilots. The crash took the lives of almost everyone on board, leaving Travis and his friend Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein as the only survivors. Travis was critically injured when the airplane crashed, and he had to spend weeks in intensive care. He received skin grafts, underwent numerous surgeries, and got blood transplants, eventually making a full recovery. However, the accident changed his life forever, and he has suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder ever since. Until recently, Travis avoided planes after the crash, even opting to take a boat to Europe while on tour to stay out of the air. However, in August 2021, he took his first flight in over a decade with his girlfriend.

Recent Collaborations

In recent years, Travis has worked alongside a wide array of artists in the genres of punk, pop, and hip-hop. In late 2020, he appeared on stage with Machine Gun Kelly at the MTV Video Music Awards, supported by blackbear.  Travis is also a member of The Transplants alongside Tim Armstrong, Rob Aston, and Kevin Bivona. In addition to playing with the punk-rock group, Travis has appeared in several of their music videos.

Barker’s Relationships

In addition to keeping a high profile in the music industry, Travis has also recently made waves for his relationship with reality TV star Kourtney Kardashian. The couple has reportedly been together since January 2021, but they were going on dates as early as February 2019. Prior to his relationship with Kourtney, Travis was married twice – to Melissa Kennedy between 2001 and 2002 and to Shanna Moakler between 2004 and 2008. From his marriage to Shanna Moakler, Travis has two kids – Alabama Luella Barker and Landon Asher Barker.

Will There Be New Blink-182 Music Soon?

In July 2021, Travis Barker started hinting at the possibility of a new Blink-182 record. The news comes after Tom Delonge, one of the band’s founding members, left the group back in 2015.  Since then, Delonge has primarily focused on his band, Angels & Airwaves, and Mark Hoppus and Barker have had their own musical endeavors to tend to. Nevertheless, Barker told Rolling Stone, “Never say never.” Travis went on to say, “I talk to Tom all the time. We send funny texts and stuff. The bad blood and the misunderstandings between us are so over with. It’s all love. We all three talk, and we’re all friends. So, yeah, I will never say never.” Fans have looked at these statements as hopeful hints at the possibility of new music to come.
